Community Problem Solvers ProjectCommunity Problem Solvers (CmPS) is an extracurricular activity at RES that is part of Future Problem Solving Program International. Our CmPS students have many projects they work on to solve real issues in our community!

The CmPS BEST Team (Butterfly - Environmental - Sustainability - Team) is committed to building the local butterfly population. Their goal is to create and preserve butterfly habitats, while reducing herbicide and pesticide use.

The local butterfly population has declined by over 80% in the past 25 years. Butterflies are central pollinators, and important to the survival of crops. Because host plants are essential for butterfly survival, the number of host plants in area must increase.

In order to solve this problem, the BEST team has learned about common host plants, built a butterfly host garden at RES, watched butterflies grow from caterpillars, and held a butterfly release party! These solutions will help to stabilize and maintain our local butterfly population.

Please view the BEST team's Host Plant Presentation to learn more about their solution to this problem. The team hopes that this presentation will inspire others to add host plants to their homes. Please consider joining their cause, and start planting native plants to support our butterflies!
